Our adoption process

Application All potential adopters must complete an adoption application.

Home Check A home check is required for all applicants. This can be completed in person or via video call

We do not require access to private areas such as bedrooms. The purpose of the home check is simply to gain a general understanding of your main living area and ensure it is safe and suitable for a cat.

Adoption Fee An adoption fee applies. This helps us cover some of the veterinary costs for the treatment and care your new family member has already received.

Adoption Contract All adopters must sign our official Adoption Contract as part of the rehoming process.

Collection of Your Cat or Kitten You will collect your new family member at the agreed location. Cats and kittens will only be handed over if you have a secure carrier with you for safe transport.

Here are the basics you will need to get prior to adopting a cat or kitten

01

A secure cat carrier for safe transport

Please make sure your carrier is sturdy and escape‑proof — a frightened cat can easily slip out of a flimsy or broken carrier, especially during a vet visit. Carriers with a top opening can make it much easier to place a nervous cat inside. Please note: we will refuse an adoption if you do not have a secure carrier with you on the day.

02

Litter tray and litter

It’s best to check what the cat or kitten is used to in their foster home — open tray or covered, flap or no flap, clumping or non‑clumping litter. Covered trays tend to be cleaner, and you can always remove the cover or flap at first if needed.

03

Food and treats

Again, please check what the foster home is feeding. Cats can have sensitive tummies, and sudden changes can cause upset. If you plan to switch diets, do it gradually. And go easy on treats in the beginning — it’s tempting to spoil your new family member, but too many new things at once can lead to tummy trouble.

04

A comfy bed

There are endless fancy beds out there, but the rumours are true… many cats will choose a cardboard box over anything expensive and then sleep on the sofa anyway. A soft blanket in a box is perfectly fine to start with. And don’t worry — we’ve all given in to buying a cute bed, even if it ends up being more décor than sleeping spot.

05

Toys

Most cats love to play. Wand toys are especially great for helping children interact safely with a cat or kitten without getting too close to excited claws.

06

A scratcher

The options are endless. Some cats adore their cat tree and use it for scratching, climbing, and sleeping. Others treat it like another one of your strange decorations. Your cat’s foster home can tell you what they prefer. In general, offering at least one scratching option helps protect your furniture.
